Featured Photographer: Lisa Wiseman

Lisa Wiseman is a 29-year-old photographer from San Francisco. We love the soft and feminine style of her photographs, so we sat down with her for an interview.

WLA: How and when did you first get into photography?
LW: I’ve always participated in every kind of art I could get my hands on. When I was about twelve, I took a photography class with an amazing teacher, Mark Wachter, who nurtured us with a very free style of teaching. He spent lots of extra time with us, gave us the space to shoot what we wanted, and taught us advanced darkroom techniques despite being beginners. I realized then that photography was like breathing and I never looked back!

WLA: What type of photography do you usually do?
LW: I shoot portraiture with a fine art feel. My clients are mainly in editorial and advertising.

WLA: Have you worked with any celebrities or for any magazines our readers may know of?
LW: Yes, I’ve photographed the two-time US Poet Laureate, Kay Ryan, who recently won the Pulitzer, Actress/CA 2nd Lady, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the founder of post-modern dance, Anna Halprin, directors Tiffany Shlain and Leslie Iwerks, and recently the founders of Kahn Academy and Airbnb.com. Some of my editorial clients include Newsweek, NYLONGuys, Venice, Marie Claire, Resource and Wired.

WLA: Are you currently working on any new projects?
LW: Yes! Check back on my website in just a few weeks - I’m very excited about sharing it soon!

WLA: What do you consider your favorite project so far?
LW: I don’t have one favorite in particular; they each are wonderful at the time I’m shooting them.

WLA: What are some of your hobbies? How do you like to spend your free time?
LW: I really enjoy looking at art and going to galleries and museums. I also read quite a bit, love Pilates, and spend time with my husband, family, and friends.
