We kid, we kid about the title of this post. Sort of. But no, really what we're here to talk about is the newest documentary that has critics and consumers alike buzzing: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold. The Greatest Movie Ever Sold is directed by Morgan Spurlock, who's best known as the Director of Super Size Me and as a winner of a prime time Emmy award.
Spurlock says the goal of the documentary is transparency, in that in the documentary, one sees the creation of it from start to finish. The film examines the world of product placement, marketing, and advertising, in a tongue-in-cheek way, by paying for the film entirely through product placement, marketing, and advertising. The film highlights today's outrageous product placement in the media by making it even more outrageous: the film is presented by Pom Wonderful and at select screenings, gift bags of small bottles of Pom and other items from sponsors were given out to viewers. Spurlock's signature humor, creative outlook, and willingness to put his own personal integrity and reputation on the line, help him accomplish his goal of creating the "Iron Man of documentaries". Starring Ralph Nader and a theme song by OK GO titled "The Greatest Song I Ever Heard", this is a documentary you will not want to miss. The Greatest Movie Ever Sold first debuted at Sundance Film Festival 2011, but opened in select theaters last Friday, 4/22. Hollywood is of course home to one of the select theatres: the Arclight Hollywood 15. The film is rated PG-13 and is 90 minutes long.
