It's summer, and you've got more free time than ever. I know that you, just like me, wants to have a good time, let loose, and enjoy the beautiful weather and carefree summer months. One of the best ways to do so, no matter where you are, is hit the club or bar. The nightlife scene, however, especially in LA, is renowned for attracting every type of individual, and consequently, every type of dress. Nowadays, girls associate going out on the town with skintight dresses, short hemlines, sky high heels, and push-up bras. Guys, on the other hand, don't seem to make much of an effort at all. If you want to stand out in the club this summer, and look classy, instead of attention-seeking like every other girl, or put together, instead of sloppy like every other guy, here's your guide!
As always, ladies first. I'm going to give you two key rules: 1. Your dress should be tight enough to show you're a woman, but loose enough to show you're a lady. 2. If you're showing thigh, don't show cleavage. If you're showing cleavage, make sure it's not an open back. (and vice versa) Girls usually use going to a club as an excuse to look slutty, trashy, and desperate. The only problem there, is that that's the exact impression you're giving off to guys: slutty, trashy, and desperate. You can look sexy without looking over-the-top. A hot pink dress like this, with a plunging neckline and extra ruching, is sure to make your chest a standout. However, the loose and flirty fit of the skirt keeps it classy. By adding electric blue and gold accessories, your look is bright, fun, and appropriate for the setting. Heels are a must. Muted but edgy heels like these ones complete the outfit perfectly. I'm not one to go for short heels, even though I'm already 5'8", simply because I think there's nothing better than a deadly-looking, sky high heel. Platforms, however, can make these gravity-defying styles more comfortable, and will make you less likely to take a spill on the busy dance floor.
Guys, I understand it's not always your favorite thing to dress up. But, I'm confident that you can at least appreciate looking fresh and put-together when you're out on the town. And, believe me, it's the first step to getting on the ladies good side. You don't have to sacrifice style for comfort. Your favorite dark wash jeans, although it's a plus if they're not too worn or baggy, are a great start. From there, a light colored button-down shirt is the next step. This simple look is a classic, and if you get hot, you can always roll the sleeves up. Next, you need a clean pair of high-tops. The pair you've been wearing in pick-up games for the past two years? Not so impressive. So many times I've been dancing with a guy in the club only to inevitably look down and spot his ugly shoes, and let me tell you, it's a turn-off. I want to know you can dress yourself. Finally, to top off the look, is a cool watch. Whether it's your favorite that you wear everyday, or a colorful one you save for occasions like this, it's a timeless and easy accessory. Many of you are probably wondering, where's the snap-back? This outfit is definitely missing something. But, in my personal opinion, guys wearing hats on the street at night, and even worse, in a dark nightclub, just look stupid. Leave it at home, please.
