Arguably the most popular part of the annual International Surf Festival, is the 6-Man Volleyball Tournament held at Manhattan Beach! This year it's taking place from July 29th-July 31st and if you've never been before, then you're missing out! The tournament is officially known as the Charlie Saikley Volleyball Tournament, but enthusiasts and competitors alike simply call it the 6-Man.
What makes this volleyball tournament so fun, is that anyone can enter. Teams from across the nation camp out in front of Manhattan Beach City Hall each year for up to 20 hours, and each year tons of teams get turned away because there simply isn't enough room for all the competitors. The tournament attracts pros, almost-pros, and amateurs, so you're sure to watch great, competitive volleyball, as well as get in a few laughs. Men's and women's teams play in a Round-Robin format on the 30th, after which the brackets have been cut down to the best competitors. The Finals take place on Sunday.
Now, you're not convinced great volleyball and sun on the beach are good-enough reasons to come out? Well, each team arrives in costume. Past reams have included the Magnum PI's, the Lakers, Miss USA, and Peanut Butter and Jelly. It's truly hilarious.
The best part about it? It's free! However, be sure to get there early, maybe even before the 9 A.M. start, because as you can see from the pictures, it's a full event!
