The United States Department of Justice filed an antitrust lawsuit which will eventually seek to block the merger of the two phone companies. A merger in which At&t proposed $37-billion to take over T-Mobile earlier this year. As most anticipated, the U.S. Department of Justice argue that this merger will result in "significantly loss of competition". An acquisition of the No. 4 carrier by the No. 2 phone carrier would systematically give way to higher prices and fewer choices. In the event that the deal doesn't go through T-mobile will still receive upwards of $3-billion as promised by At&t.
