Kim Kardashian: Love or Money?

Marriage was once an institution between two people based on love and commitment. Kim Kardashian saw it as an opportunity to boost ratings and make money. After a $10 million wedding and a 72 day marriage, the reality TV star filed for divorce from NBA player Kris Humphries. She attempted to convince her fans in a message written on her personal blog that she did not make any money off her wedding, but those who are aware of Kim’s businesslike mentality disagree.

According to several reports, Kim and her family made a rough $18 million profit, which included $2.5 million from People magazine for exclusive photos of the wedding and $300,000 from People magazine for the exclusive engagement announcement.  Just to put this amount of money into perspective, she made roughly $250,000 every day she was married to Kris Humphries.

While some devoted fans believe that Kim married for love and in hopes of raising a family, others are convinced that making money and expanding her empire was a deciding factor in marrying the 26 year-old basketball player.  Kim constantly defends herself by saying that she jumped into the marriage too quickly, but she really did love Kris.  However, it is hard to believe that she loved him that much since she was so quick to divorce him and was not willing to put their “irreconcilable differences” as this was the stated reason for their separation when she filed for divorce.

While it is fair to say that Kim loved Kris and wanted to spend her life with him, it is also safe to say that she didn't hestitate to marry him, knowing how much money she would make from it.  Kim and her family are constantly looking for ways to expand their ever-growing empire and keep their name in the spotlight.  Kim marrying Kris was just another way to keep people talking.  People kept their attention on the couple even after their extravagant wedding aired as E!'s wedding special a month and a half after the fact.

Three weeks following the premiere, Kim filed for divorce, making sure everyone’s attention was still on her. After being bombarded by interviewers and paparazzi constantly following her, asking questions about her divorce, Kim went into hiding, stating that the she is overwhelmed by the negative attention she has been receiving.  Kim put her entire life on TV; this is just another trial in her life that she will have to face…with all of America watching.
