I'm a fan, not a groupie

Groupies: Every girl will deny being one until she turns blue in the face. But, ladies, it's a useless argument. No matter how well-spoken, logically sound, or detailed your defense is, no man will ever believe you when it comes to hip-hop or rap artists (ESPECIALLY as a white girl. But we'll save that issue for another time).

It seems females are unable to be recognized as a "fan", by not only other listeners, but by the artists themselves. It seems as though our role in this industry is to make sure we look good, help a rapper get their nut, then move on to the next one. But, what about the girls who don't plan on throwing their panties onstage? What about the girls who are perfectly happy to stand in the back and just hear some good music? What about the girls who know every line to every song he's put out? Don't mistake us for the status hungry, gold digging females that blow every man who can get them backstage. There are some REAL female fans out there. Why can't I listen to an artist without being questioned whether or not I'd "fuck him"? Let's be honest, I love me some YG, Dom Kennedy, Lil Wayne, and Nipsey Hussle, but any girl is lying when she says they are sexy. Their talent, money, and fame is sexy. I KNOW if I ever saw Tyga walking down the street as a "nobody", I wouldn't even look twice. Why can't I listen to any male artist without my intentions being put into question? I can be just as big of a fan as the next guy.

I have nothing but undying support for a countless number of artists, but my interest isn't based off whether or not they are tall, muscular, inked up, etc. Living in the LA area, it's almost too easy to go see an artist perform. I take advantage of this, and I go to hear good music, to see them at work, and to see their passion on stage, not in the hopes I can go backstage and cozy up to some rapper after the show. I know I'm not the only girl who feels this way, and one day, it'd be nice to be respected as a female FAN. In the meantime, I'll just take the seat in the back, continue loving the music I do, support the artists I do, and keep my clothes on.

Am I alone in this issue? Can't I just like your music? Let me know in the comment box.
