I'm a fan, not a groupie

Groupies: Every girl will deny being one until she turns blue in the face. But, ladies, it's a useless argument. No matter how well-spoken, logically sound, or detailed your defense is, no man will ever believe you when it comes to hip-hop or rap artists (ESPECIALLY as a white girl. But we'll save that issue for another time).

Boy in Detention Review

Now, before I let you explore my opinion, I just want to make this clear: I love Chris Brown. I'm not obsessed like some of his fans, nor will you catch me promoting my love for him 24/7 on social networks, but, I was hardly mad at him when he punched Miss Rihanna, and he will forever be featured on my play list...that is...if he stops his rap career NOW! I love him too much to be "hating", "bashing", or "jealous". I just simply want him to take advantage of the gift God gave him, so he can stop stealing images that just do not fit him.

Is it me, or did he all of a sudden get bold after the Rihanna situation? I feel like he went to jail, met a thug, and came out trying to be the new Lil' Wayne, but instead, he sounds like Tyga in ridiculous songs such as "100 bottles", "First 48", AND "Snapbacks back" Wait...what? He's trying to be grown at 22 in 2011, but then puts out somethin' like "Snapbacks Back" on his mixtape? I mean, he pretty much took himself back five years on that. Him and Tyga murdered that song, and I don't mean that in a good way. As a rapper, Chris is supposed to make songs that rap lovers can nod their heads to. If I nod my head to CB's current stuff, I'm going to end up with a concussion. This is crazy.

Watch The Throne

What I believe will be the Best album of the year comes out today: Jay Z & Kanye West- Watch The Throne. I'm too excited, and a friend of mine asked me to write something for this website, so I definitely decided I had to write about this! Last night (a Saturday night), I spent my night trying to win tickets to the "Watch The Throne" concert, and also a copy of the album on Power 106. I called and called and called and called and FINALLY got through, when they told me to hold on for about two minutes. When they answered, I got so excited thinking I was the 30th caller that they were looking for, so when they told me to hang up and call back, I did. I called and called and called again but nothing. About an hour or so later, I was still calling, until I found out they had a winner already Even though I didn't win last night, I'm still going to keep trying until they stop giving out tickets. Jay Z is my favorite rapper, I've never been to a concert of his, and if I get to go to this one, I would go NUTS! Oh, and did I mention it's right after my birthday??? What a great gift that would be. Anyway, tomorrow morning I will be waking up and buying the album and listening to it all day, and you should do the same. Plus, if you just can't wait, Ticket Master has the snipets on their website! Enjoy.

The Hip Hop Facade

Twitter is a funny place…it really exposes how people can be huge followers. There is no doubt that hip-hop is one of the biggest current trends right now, especially on Twitter. That being the case, there are a lot of people out there pretending to be some sort of hardcore, day one, backpack hip-hop fans. I see so many young people talk about artists whom they actually know nothing about. That’s cool. But, then those very same people turn around and claim that they’re hip-hop heads, and make it seem as if they belong to an exclusive club that nobody knows anything about. These certain people make it seem like hip-hop is ONLY 90’s East Coast rap. That couldn’t be any further from the truth. These posers know that there are certain artists that they are SUPPOSED to like, so, then they act like they do. Finally, you have the artists that the ‘hip-hop heads’ feel like they’re NOT supposed to like: Nicki Minaj, Lil B, Waka Flocka etc. The other day, I tweeted a Plies lyric, and noticed that people began to un-follow me…crazy, right?

Section 80 Review

“I spent 23 years on this Earth, searching for answers, ‘til one day I realized I had to come up with my own,”-Kendrick Lamar.

Who is Kendrick Lamar? Formally known as K.Dot and newly proclaimed the king of LA rap, 23 year old Kendrick Lamar, a new star out of Compton, California just released his fourth body of work July 2, 2011 called Section 80. Section 80 is an album that takes more than one listening for the true meaning to become clear and concise. The lyrical prowess on this tape and the direct and indirect messages behind all of his songs are disparate. Lamar recently validated himself as being the voice behind this generations hip-hop. What a bold statement, indeed. But instead of expressing bewilderment and dissent, I agreed with acquiesce.

With an impressive single called "Moving to Hollywood," we feel like his buzz is going to continue to grow as his talent gets recognized so naturally, we had to get to know him better and let you get to know him also.
