The Latest Fashion Trend in France: Children?

Some interesting things have transpired in the French fashion industry lately. First, ten-year-old model Thylane Lena-Rose Blondeau, began appearing in magazines like French Vogue and Vogue Enfants. In one shoot in particular, she was dressed in adult clothing, diamond accessories, lots of makeup, and poses that some have deemed too sexual for a child.

Outrage over the spread has called into question whether the magazine is promoting the sexualization of children, as well as harsh critiques towards Thylane's mother. Spurring the fire, French lingerie company Jours Après Lunes, has created a line of "loungerie" for girls ages four through twelve. The suggestive name of the line, as well as the skimpy fashions and playful photos, have elicited international outrage. Now, more than ever, people are wondering, has the fashion industry taken it too far? The age-old assumption that kids are growing up too fast in the modern world has been given new fuel. Are ten-year-old models and "loungerie" lines immoral, wrong, and, perhaps, even bordering on illegal? Or, are people making a big deal over nothing? Leave us a comment and give us your opinion!

  1. This world has nothing better to do? How about we all work on curing health problems, feeding the unfed, educating our children...NOT CREATE MORE IGNORANCE!

  2. i can see why people would make a big fuss about her shoot. But I mean there's going to be some bad shoots and good shoots. If they made her make-up nude with a much more classier take of the leopard prints i believe there wouldn't be a problem with a 10 yr. old on vogue. fashion is fashion. dolls wear make-up. I remembering dressing up in my mum's clothes and putting on her some of her make-up as a child just for kicks and just to show a little femininity. people fill their lives with things they love to do so i mean it's not meaningless but it could seem so just because some of us believe there are better things we could do. but we are all living beings what more can we do? that's just how i take this. it's been done so i believe people should just making a huge drama out of things damn haha.

  3. another thing i have to add is that, the fashion industry probably didn't mean harm when they made kids underwear. i mean at least she's not doing nude photos so i see no harm in it. my belief is that they sought this as a creative line for children to wear in the comfort of their own homes.
