With school right around the corner, I’d be dragging my feet, doing the regular before school preparations, trying to prolong my summer and delay the beginning of school. This summer break however was definitely out of familiarity to me. The past year at LMU was, as cliché as it sounds, the best year of my life. I met people who I am closer to now than I have been with anyone else in all of my Kindergarten to High School years. So usually at the end of the school year I am completely ready to begin summer and just relax, but I found myself bored out of my mind this whole entire summer.
I felt like I was going crazy, not having anything at all to do. I had some good weekends that were amazing, but those days were the ones where I was with my LMU girls and guys. To go back to living with the people who are as determined and goal oriented as I am and for us to get back to our routine at school is where I want to be. Living at LMU during the school year was like living in my own little city. Not only was I surrounded by people I have grown to adore, but I changed somehow.
Over the last two semesters, I grew as a person and experienced opportunities that changed the way I thought on certain situations. So unlike normal summer breaks, I ended up doing more reflecting upon myself and my encounters. I am where I feel like I belong. Getting ready to come back to school and speaking with my best friends about it was probably one of the more exciting things I looked forward to this summer. I’m relieved that summer is finally coming to an end just because when I’m at school, I know what I want to do and I do it. All the opportunities for me to get what I want to done is right in front of me, and I know that there is always something for me to do there. It’s like I know where I’m headed, and having such a long break just slows me down.
Once you understand what you have to do, all you want to do is get straight there with no distractions in between. I feel like I have my own special place set at school and it fits me perfectly. Everyone is asking me how I feel about going back to school and the first thing I always say is that I’m ready. Don’t get me wrong, the break felt nice for a little while, but I feel like it lasted a just a tad too long. I probably sound crazy for being overly ready to get back to the whole school girl routine, but I guess that’s how you get when you experience a little bit of LMU.
