The Purple Island

 The Purple Island
Gallagher 1948

The smell of humidity in the air lets us know we've arrived
The palm trees guide us down the road like Earth's own natural GPS
The coral structure emerges on the left,
leaving the car to feel like it's going to explode from the anticipation
Inside the lobby I am engulfed by the thick air conditioning,
wearing it like a heavy winter coat.
The coral color theme is everywhere like I remember it to be

Self evaluation

I always took myself as a somewhat affectionate, pretty outgoing and social person. That no longer seems to be the case. like most people, The day of the week I look forward to is not friday or saturday. Its actually monday. My first thoughts at the beginning of my week aren’t… I can’t wait to party. I’m not searching for approval or affection from anyone. I don’t need people calling me and checking up on me. I thought I was the type of person who wanted to have a boyfriend for the sake of not being a lone. Until, I started to really look at my life..I enjoy being by myself as much as I enjoy the company of others. I just realized how self-sufficient I actually am.

I believe in my beauty, do you?

I’ve come to realize being beautiful is something you have to believe to be true about yourself. doesn’t matter what you do to change or fix things. because you’ll never be happy always trying to fix things. & don’t get me wrong because change CAN be beautiful as well. But when you can’t take a step back and appreciate yourself and find beauty in something as small as a freckle, nothing will make you happy. because in you’re mind its already programed that, “something needs to be fixed” and once that is your BEIELF something will always need to be fixed.

Dating and Dining - Do’s and Don’ts

So it seems you said the right words and she said ‘Yes’ to dinner. Let’s keep it a Yes throughout the entire night. Shall we…?

As you drive down, walk by the popular eateries, do not point out where you’ve eaten and rate it. No one will then be thinking of the restaurant you are speaking of but, rather who has this person eaten here with? So skip the, ‘ I’ve eaten here and there ’.

Lets fly over the earth

This movie begins over the Pacific Ocean and continues over North and South America before entering daylight near Antarctica. Visible cities, countries and landmarks include (in order) Vancouver Island, Victoria, Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles. Phoenix. Multiple cities in Texas, New Mexico and Mexico. Mexico City, the Gulf of Mexico, the Yucatan Peninsula, El Salvador, Lightning in the Pacific Ocean, Guatemala, Panama, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Lake Titicaca, and the Amazon. Also visible is the earths ionosphere (thin yellow line), a satellite (55sec) and the stars of our galaxy."

Sleep = overrated

If I didn’t have to sleep - I wouldn’t. I don’t know why anybody would. I would learn languages and watch movies and read books and work out and write and go on adventures. I would paint. I would sew. I would knit do something more badass than knit. I would get to know people on a deeper level. I would learn how to play all of the essential musical instruments - mastering each one so I could finally start that rock band.

Street Fight: Floyd Mayweather vs. Victor Ortiz

I want to know, when did boxing turn into street fighting? That Mayweather vs Ortiz fight was absolutely ridiculous and I am not impressed nor am I the least bit satisfied. Head butting and cheap shots? Call it what you want, but the referee wasn't even looking at blows that sent Ortiz to the ground.

Where have we seen this before Floyd Mayweather vs. Larry Merchant?

The Muppets Movie

Believe it.

Material Girl

If you listen to Barrett Strong’s 1959 hit single “Money (That’s What I Want)” - you’ll hear these famously covered lyrics: The best things in life are free/ but you can give them to the birds and bees/ I want money.

Call this materialistic. Call it superficial. Whatever. The people who say “money can’t buy happiness” are full of shit. Having money can and should make everything easier - it’s all about how you use it. The root of unhappiness is people not making the most out of what they have.

Once upon a time...Glen Rice and Sarah Palin?

....And just when I had chalked politics up as a boring ass loss, there's nothing like over hearing the term "Teabagging With The Teaparty" on a somewhat dull Wednesday afternoon, to kick my short attention span right back into gear!

Power couples of the world

Forget Brad and Angelina, the following are the BEST couples in the world.

1. Khloe and Lamar – They compliment each other so well they are just too cute. They’re not obnoxious like her annoying sister Kim and benchwarmer boo Kris. Khlomar is the epitome of eternal love. Khloe has Lamar’s initials tattooed on her hand, and Lamar has hers on both hands because he thinks he should always do twice as much for her. CUTE.

I search for happiness

 I search for happiness

Katie Warmbier

Visions of my life are getting much clearer
introduced to my future,
now I know why I fear her
sadness, death, and surprises
stare at me unblinking in the mirror
unexpected pregnancies neurotic tenancies
this happiness and good events are unfound
all I wanna be is a queen
where is my crown, why the permanent frown?
I woke up today changed
this sun is much brighter
a different view through this bedroom window pain
gotta keep my hope cause she's a rider
I believe in heaven more than hell
successes more than fail
exposing my weakness
I refuse to keep this vale
I have a dream
my dream is to be free
my dream is to be me
my dream is to be happy

9/11 10 years later

Don't forget waking up in the morning to every t.v. channel blaring the news. don't forget your parent's frantically talking on the phone to everyone they know making sure they are ok. don't forget the explanations from our teachers. But remember the lives risked, saved, and unfortunately lost.

Tale of Two Cities

The Big Apple or The City of Angels? The City So Nice, They Named It Twice or La-La Land? The City of Sunshine or The City That Never Sleeps? New York and Los Angeles are two of the most infamous cities in the world, the only problem is, their placement on opposite coasts makes it impossible to enjoy them at the same time. So, which is better? What are there differences? Which would you like better? WadidoLA explores.

Fitness truths with Stephanie Willes

A long time ago it was much simpler to select what you were going to eat. You grew it, raised it and then you pulled it from the ground or butchered it. These days you have restaurant after restaurant and tons of chemically engineered "crap", for lack of a better word, because really we can't call a marshmallow food now can we? Pay close attention because here is the most common misconceptions about eating healthy.

Schweddy Balls

Today Ben & Jerry's announce their newest ice cream flavor- Schweddy Balls. What first appeared to be a joke off of South Park is actually a real flavor that they will produce. The name actually comes from a skit from Saturday Night Live featuring Alec Baldwin. They're said to be fudge covered rum and malt flavored. Interesting. We know everyone just can't wait to go out and try Ben & Jerry's Schweddy Balls. Enjoy.

Your Unimaginable Future

Paige Crane
Change leading to disappointment is inevitable. When things change in a way you don’t want them to you will be mad, frustrated, and yes, disappointed. But that disappointment does not take you over. It opens new doors and reveals a life that you never thought was possible until the change happened. Disappointment leads you to your unimaginable future. Creating opportunities that never would have existed without that disappointing change. It challenges you to redefine yourself and unlocks ideas and dreams that you left behind.

Change and disappointment are unavoidable, how you deal with it is up to you.

Basketball Wives LA

If you’re relevant in society, you’d know that reality television is the hottest thing since…well since forever. There is a vast array of hour-long shows to devote some quality time to your couch with. My favorite is "Basketball Wives", which is the perfect contradiction because of the cast, which includes 5 ex-wives and 1 embarrassing dancer turned groupie turned baby mother (awkward).

What is Labor Day?

It comes around once a year and is celebrated across the nation. It give the American people a day off from work and school as holidays are expected to. The first Monday of September is recognized as Labor Day. Many people know it as the three-day-weekend holiday, which is fine. But the actual reservance of that first Monday in September is to celebrate the economic and social contribution of workers.  The first Labor Day in the United States was on September 5,1882 in New York (photoed above). Proposed my Peter J. McGuire of the American Federation of Labor, after he witnessed the annual Labor Festival in Toronto, Canada. Thanks for the three-day-weekend Canada. Happy Labor Day!

Change is bad when it leads to disappointment

Change is bad when it leads to disappointment.

It might be worsening anger. It might involve growing addicted to something unhealthy or unsettling. Or change might result from medical issues—a stroke, a crippling accident, or the development of a mental disorder

It’s hard to give up old grudges. It’s hard to abandon old habits. It’s hard to see old friends walk away because they don’t like the new direction your life is taking as a follower of Christ. Just be sure of this: God has said, "Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you"

We can be grateful that God does not change. He does not go back on His promises.

From jumps to pumps

Maybe I have grown to love my pumps, heels, wedges, platforms, and stilettos a little too much. Yes, I’m guilty of a shoe obsession, just like almost every other girl in the universe! The way they make me feel and look, the way they shape my body, and the way they drive men crazy are just a few reasons why you will rarely see me in anything else. A tiny part of me blames Sex and the City and their focus on shoes for making my addiction feel acceptable!

As a teenager, I felt the same way about my sneakers as I feel about my heels now. Never did I show up to school or the mall on the weekends without the newest, freshest pair of Jordan’s or Nike Air Max’s! Clean, fly sneakers made me feel cool, and it definitely let me express my fashion sense, especially in middle school where we had to wear uniforms. Yuk! I remember even competing with the boys to see who had the most recent and popular jumps. I’d go as far as making my mom take me to L.A. to buy the hottest new pair so I could make sure I’d walk through my school halls in the latest J’s. I loved getting compliments from the basketball team on my shoes *giggle*.

Just an ordinary thought

My ordinary is not yours. My ordinary is exceptionally compelling and outrageously wild with a dash of charisma and a pinch of odd, just for fun. Ordinary is usually seen as banal and bland, however, your ordinary is the most potent thing about you. You are all of yourself when you are ordinary. Being ordinary does not mean that you fit the stereotype or follow the crowd.
